About me and my work
I have always been deeply moved and fascinated by color. Much as a painter uses paint, I work with a broad palette of printed and solid fabrics in a range of colors, to create dynamic and rhythmic compositions. My work is colorful and expressive, warm and playful.
I usually work on a series of pieces in which I explore a theme or technique. Sometimes my work is abstract and experimental, often it is narrative with recognizable forms. The titles I choose give insight into the underlying themes.
Growing up in New York, I was hugely influenced by the art I saw at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). Sonia Delaunay, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Mark Rothko and Henri Matisse have formed me as an artist.
After attending art school in Amsterdam (Academie voor Beeldende Vorming) I worked for many years as a silk screen printer, art educator, textile pattern designer and art curriculum consultant for schools. I now work in a museum and mainly in my studio.
